RELIC FOOTWEAR, began with the hope to alter human performance with the creation of track spikes.
The first step,
was to understand the demographic that I’d be appealing to, and research what I could involving human propulsion within the shoe-space.
Now that we were able to understand our goal and aesthetic, we could move forward in the creation of the shoe,
starting with the development of two possible soles.
I decided to develop the second sole, with the priority of propulsion in mind, as well as its reduced impact that the heel’s foam would provide.
With the sole’s concept in place, we can start developing the outside form of the shoe.
Three Upper Orthographic concepts were created.
The third upper sole concept was the most promising, since it provided a breathable mesh, that would help keep the runner’s feet cool and under little pressure because of it’s lightweight.
I’d later apply the twist-on mechanism to this design for an added quickness when putting on the shoes.
With the upper and under sole drafted, a physical model was made in order to envision the concept.
There were plenty of difficulties in making the physical model, especially with sculpting the foam in order to accompany the spikes on the bottom.
Creating the model was a very fun part of the process, and allowed me to experiment with physical color ways (pink & green).
Once the physical model was made, a digital mockup was created in order to envision the shoe’s possibilities and to create promotive material.
Accompanying the digital mockup, a storyboard was created to display the process of putting on the shoe.
The digital model was utilized to create a presentation board displaying all the important aspects of the track spike.
